DOKU.ARTS - Call for Entries

The Filmmuseum Amsterdam and the Dutch Cultural Media Fund are pleased to announce the fourth edition of DOKU.ARTS, which will take place from 9 to 13 June 2010 at the Filmmuseum in Amsterdam.

Call for entries
The call for entries for DOKU.ARTS 2010 is now open! The deadline for film submissions is 15 February 2010 (materials must be received by this date). Please go to www.doku-arts.com to read the regulations and to fill out the online submission form.

Films and art
DOKU.ARTS investigates the connections between cinema and television history and art, showing cinematic portrayals and documents about artists and art, that succeed in getting to close to the work and life of artists. The festival screens, promotes and discusses documentaries from all art fields: Music, literature, theatre, dance, cinema, architecture, painting, sculpture, visual art and media art. DOKU.ARTS presents films and videos, which have artistic value themselves.

Unique in Europe
DOKU.ARTS is unique in Europe. It specifically concentrates on films that are either ignored or given limited attention at the major international documentary film festivals, and on cultural productions that are gradually disappearing from public broadcasting and foreign networks. New, creative documentaries about art and artists will be shown, including portraits of artists, cinematic essays, inventive compilations and tributes. DOKU.ARTS also includes the presentation of highlights from the Filmmuseum’s unique collection of historic and contemporary films. DOKU.ARTS’ co-operating partner, the Dutch Cultural Media Fund, will present a seminar for professionals.

In-depth
Most of the films selected for the festival will be screened for the first time in the Netherlands. DOKU.ARTS wants to remain a small festival, presenting between 20 and 30 films. There are no competitions or awards, but the festival invites all the directors to attend the screening of their films in Amsterdam. The in-depth film talks, moderated by Dutch art and film critics, are at the heart of the festival.

DOKU.ARTS background
Founded in 2006 by Andreas Lewin at the Academy of Arts in Berlin, DOKU.ARTS moved to Amsterdam in 2008, after an invitation of Filmmuseum director Sandra den Hamer, former director of the International Film Festival Rotterdam. DOKU.ARTS 2010 is a co-production of the Filmmuseum Amsterdam and Andreas Lewin Filmproduktion, Berlin. For an impression of the 2009 edition, have a look at some pictures here.
